The tax rebate is Bush and his cronies way of bailing out big corporations using tax payers' money, it is NOT to help poorer America.
Why is there money to help big corporations, killing people, but when it comes to Social Security, the money is running out? Why don't they bail out Social Security? My measly $300 rebate has already gone to Big Oil. Yours most likely will end up in some big corporation's pockets too and our children will have to pick up the tab.

General Database Questions for Works
• Q: Why does my new database already contain information?
• A: When you create a new document and it contains information, this means it has been saved as a default template. To turn off the default template, use the steps below:
  • On the File menu, click Templates.
  • Select a database template.
  • Note: The database templates are preceded by a blue and white icon.
  • Check each database template to make sure the Use This Template for All New Database Documents box does not contain a check mark.
  • Click New & Recent Documents.
  • Click Database to create a blank database document.

• A Follow these steps:
  • Open the file in Works.
  • On the File menu, click Save As.
  • Click the Save File As Type box, and choose dBASE IV.

  • On the File menu, click Import.
  • Select dBASE IV as the Data Source.

• A: To create a multiple-line field in List view, do the following:

  • On the View menu, click Form.
  • Select the field.
  • On the Format menu, click Field Size.

• A: To create a report, do the following:
  • On the Tools menu, click Create New Report.
  • Give the report a name and add any fields you want included on the report.

  • On the Report Statistics dialog box, select the field that you want totaled and place a check in the Sum box.

• Q: How do I create a running total in the database?
• A: A running total shows the sum of all the values in a specific field up to any given record. In a Works database, you can use a formula to automatically create and calculate a running total.
  • For example, if you have a field called "Gizmos" and you want to track additions and subtractions of your inventory of Gizmos, do the following:
    • Enter the starting number of Gizmos in record 1 of the field.
    • Create a new field named "Total".
    • Enter the same number in the first record of the Total field.
    • In the second record of the Total field, type the formula
      =Gizmos+Total
  
  
• Q: How do I combine text from two separate fields into one field?
• A: To combine text from two fields into one, use the ampersand (&) to join the fields.
  • You may also want to include one space.
  • For example, if Field1 contains "John" and Field2 contains "Brown", the following formula will produces a combined "John Brown" in Field3:
    =Field1&" "&Field2

Restore Data From a Damaged Works Database
Solution
• To resolve this issue, use the following troubleshooting methods. After you complete each method, test to see if the issue is resolved. If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.
  • Copy the Data Into a New Database
  • Note: When you copy your data into a new database, your data is preserved but formulas, field names, and reports are not saved.
    • Open the damaged database.
    • On the View menu, click List.
    • Click the first cell in the first field, and then drag to select the entire database.
    • On the Edit menu, click Copy.
    • On the File menu, click New.
      • If you are using Works 4.0 or later, click Database on the Works Tools tab. If you are using Works 3.x, click Database, and then click OK.
      • If you are using Works 4.0 or later, click Add in the Create Database dialog box, and then click Done.
      • If you are using Works 3.x, click List on the View menu.
      • On the Edit menu, click Paste
    • If you receive the following error message, click Yes:
      The source data is larger than the selection. Add new fields to make it fit?
    • Click Yes to add fields, click No to trim source to fit current selection, or click Cancel.
    • On the File menu, click Save.
    • In the File Name box, type a file name, and then click Save
  Save File in the dBASE IV Format
  • Note: When you save your database file in the dBASE IV format, your data is preserved but formulas, field names, and reports are not saved.
    • Open the damaged database.
    • On the File menu, click Save As.
    • In the File Name box, type a name for the new file.
    • In the Save As Type or Save File As Type box, click dBASE IV.
    • Click Save.
    • If you receive the following message, click OK:
      You have chosen to save the document in dBASE file format. Some text has been truncated. Please check the original file for accuracy.
    • On the File menu, click the dBASE IV file you just created.
    • On the File menu, click Save As.
    • In the File Name box, type a new file name.
    • In the Save As Type or Save File As Type box, click Works DB, and then click Save.
  • Create Backup Copies When You Save Files
    • Microsoft Works for Windows versions 3.0 and later include a backup feature. When this feature is enabled, a back up copy of the previous version of your Microsoft Works file is created when you save changes to your current Microsoft Works file. This feature helps to protect against file damage.
    • By default, the backup feature is not enabled. To enable the backup feature for a Works file, follow these steps:
      • On the File menu, click Save As.
      • Click to select the Create Backup Copy or Create backup copy of old file check box.
      • Click OK.

Import a Works Database into Microsoft Access
• Summary This article describes how to import a Works Database file into an Access 95 (version 7.0) or Access 97 database.
• Save the Works Database File
  • Save the Works Database file in a format compatible with Microsoft Access by doing the following:
    • Open the database in Works.
    • Make sure the field widths in Form view are large enough to display all the information in the field.
    • Check the format of each field containing text, to ensure it is General or Text formatting. If the format of a text field is set to a numeric format, such as Currency or Date, that field will be blank when opened in Access.
    • When you save in dBASE format, field names will be truncated at 10 characters, so ensure the first 10 characters of each field name are unique.
      For example, two fields named "Address 1" and "Address 2" would be OK, but "Address Line 1" and "Address Line 2" would not be.
    • Note: If the first 10 characters in two or more fields are the same, the additional field name(s) will be imported into Access with a default field name, such as, Field_1, Field_2.
    • On the File menu, click Save As.
    • Select a folder to save the database to; to make it easy to locate, select the Access folder.
    • Enter a new name, without an extension, in the File Name field.
    • From the Save File As Type list, select dBASE III or dBASE IV and click OK.
    • Note: If the error message, Some Field Text Was Truncated, is displayed, increase the field width.
    • Quit Works.
    • Note: If Works does not add the .dbf extension, resave the file with this extension.
  Import the Works Database into Access
  • To import the database created above into Access, follow these steps:
    • Start Access.
    • In the Create A New Database Using dialog box, select Blank Database and click OK.
    • Name the database and click Create.
    • On the Tables tab, click New.
    • In the New Table dialog box, select Import Table, from the list and then click OK.
    • Change the Look In box to the folder that contains the Works database, and change the Files of Type box to either dBASE III or dBASE IV, depending on the format you chose in the steps above.
    • Click the database you want to use and then click Import.
  • You should receive a message that the file has been successfully imported. Click OK. Then close the Import dialog box.
  • The Works file has been imported into Access. If you want to view the imported data, click the new table in the Tables list and click Open. If you want to discard the Works file used to transfer your data into Microsoft Access, delete the file.
  • Note: Microsoft Access Dbase drivers expect the file name of the dbase file to be in the MS-Dos 8.3 file format.
  Import a Works Database into Microsoft Access 2000
  • Saving the Works Database File
    • Save the Works database file in a format compatible with Microsoft Access. To do so, follow these steps:
      • Open the database in Works.
      • Make sure the field widths in Form view are large enough to display all the information in the field.
      • Check the format of each field that contains text to ensure that it is General or Text formatting. If the format of a Text field is set to a numeric format, such as Currency or Date, the field will be blank when you open the database in Access.

      • Note: If Works does not add the .dbf extension, resave the file with this extension.
  Importing the Works Database into Access
  • To import the database into Access, follow these steps:
    • Start Microsoft Access.
    • In the Microsoft Access dialog box, under "Create a new database using," click Blank Access Database, and then click OK.
    • Name the database, and then click Create.
    • In the Database window, under Objects, click Tables, and then click New.
    • In the New Table dialog box, select Import Table from the list, and then click OK.
    • In the Import dialog box, click the arrow in the Look In box, and select the folder that contains the dBASE file that you created in Microsoft Works.
    • Click the arrow in the Files Of Type box, and select either dBASE III or dBASE IV, depending on the format you chose in "Saving the Works Database File" section earlier in this article.
    • Click the database that you want to use, and then click Import.
    • You should receive a message that the file has been successfully imported.
    • Click OK.
    • Close the Import dialog box.
    • The Works file has been imported into Access.
    • If you want to view the imported data, select the new table in the Database Window, and click Open.
    • If you want to discard the Works file used to transfer your data into Microsoft Access, delete the file.

Import a Works Database into Microsoft Access 2002
Save the Works Database File
• To save the Works database file in a format that is compatible with Microsoft Access, follow these steps:
  • Open the database in Works.
  • Verify that the field widths in Form view are large enough to display all of the information in the field.
  • Verify that the format of each field that contains text is set to General or Text.
  • When you save in dBASE format, field names are truncated at 10 characters, so it is important to verify that the first 10 characters of each field name are unique.
    For example, two fields that are named Address_1 and Address_2 will import as expected, but if two fields are named Address_Line_1 and Address_Line_2, these fields will import with default field names.
  • Note: If the first 10 characters in two or more fields are the same, these field names are imported into Access with default field names such as Field_1 and Field_2.
  • On the File menu, click Save As.
  • Locate a folder to which you want to save the database. (To make the database easy to locate, you can use the My Documents folder.)
  • Type a new name for the database, if you want one, in the File Name text box.
  • Note: When you import a dBASE file that does not follow the MS-DOS 8.3 file name convention (that is, an 8- character name followed by a period (.) and a 3-character extension), you may experience problems when you try to import the dBASE file into Microsoft Access. Therefore, create a new file name that does not use more than eight characters.
  • In the Save file as type list box, click to select dBASE III or dBASE IV, and then click Save.
  • Note: If you receive the following error message, increase the field width: Some Field Text Was Truncated
  • Quit Works.
  • Note: If Works does not add the .dbf file name extension, save the file again with .dbf for the file name extension.

Import the Works Database into Access
• Start Microsoft Access.
• In the New File task pane, under New, click Blank Database.
• Type a file name for the database, and then click Create.
• In the Database window, under Objects, click Tables, and then click New.
• In the New Table dialog box, click to select Import Table from the list, and then click OK.
• In the Import dialog box, click the down arrow in the Look In list box, and then click to select the folder that contains the dBASE file that you created in Microsoft Works.
• Click the down arrow in the Files Of Type list box, and the click to select either dBASE III or dBASE IV (the same format that you selected in "Save the Works Database File" section).
• Click to select the database that you want to use, and then click Import.
• You receive a message that the file has been successfully imported. Click OK, and then close the Import dialog box.
• To view the imported data, click to select the new table in the Database window, and then click Open.
• If you want to discard the Works file that you used to transfer your data into Microsoft Access, delete the Works file.
