If you are planning on upgrading to Vista, there are hardly any drivers available. They are not the same as XP and most likely you will not be able to find drivers for your hardware at this time. Check with your manufacture for Vista drivers before you upgrade or you may be out of luck for a while until someone comes up with drivers. This is another repeat of XP SP 2.

If you are using Win XP SP 2, disable the popup blocker program or lower the setting.

"The operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."
Error Message
When you click on a link in IE Explorer you receive the following error message.
"The operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator."
Solution
• Usually this error is created by a program like Spybot or Norton that have a registry restriction block setting.
• Check these programs and disable the registry restriction block.

Links Do Not Work in Outlook, Outlook Express, Microsoft Word, Excel, IE Explorer
• Outlook, Outlook Express, Microsoft Word, Excel, IE Explorer, all can have the same solutions so try all the suggestions on this page.
• These are the most common solutions
  • Open Windows Explorer
  • Click Tools on the toolbar
  • Click Folder Options
  • Click File Types
  • Scroll down to URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol and select it
  • Click Edit ( Advanced ) depending on your Windows version
  • Select Open
  • Click Edit
  • Application used to perform this action" should read
    • C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome
    • (Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.)
  • DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have: In Some Cases You May Have To Uncheck DDE IF It Is Checked

You Cannot Open New Internet Explorer Window or Nothing Happens After You Click a Link
Problem

• When you click a hyperlink in an E-mail message or on a Web page, or right-click a hyperlink on a Web page and then click Open in New Window, you may experience one or more of the following problems:
  • Nothing happens.
  • The new window may be blank.
  • You may receive a scripting error message.
  • When you use the Print command or the Print Preview command in Internet Explorer, nothing may happen.
• When you try to connect to Web folders, you may receive the following error message:
  • The current operation could not be completed because an unexpected error has occurred.
Solution

Method 1 will almost always fix this problem, if not continue to Method 2.

• Method 1
  
  • Quit all programs that are running.
  • Click Start
  • Click Run.
  • Type in or copy and paste
    regsvr32 urlmon.dll
  • Click OK.
  • When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.
  • If this does not resolve the problem, repeat the above for each of the following files (type in regsvr32 urlmon.dll, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
  • Shdocvw.dll
  • Msjava.dll
  • Actxprxy.dll
  • Oleaut32.dll
  • Mshtml.dll
  • Browseui.dll
  • Shell32.dll (Windows XP and Windows 2000 only)
  
  
• Method 2
  
  • If the problem is still not resolved, verify that the following registry values are present and correct:
  • To do this go to Start
  • Click Run
  • Type in
    regedit
  • When the registry edit window open click Edit
  • Click Find
  • Copy and paste each of the following in and then click on Find Next Then in the right pane look for Name and Value and see if they are the same.
    • HKEY\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
      • Name: (Default)
      • Value: IDispatch
    • HKEY\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid
      • Name: (Default)
      • Value: {00020420-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}
    • HKEY\SOFTWARE\Classes\Interface\{00020400-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProxyStubClsid32

  • If Method 1 and 2 do not work Microsoft says to then reinstall IE Explorer and all updates.

Internet Shortcuts in IE Explorer & Outlook Express Do Not Start Web Browser

Problem

• When you double-click an Internet shortcut in an Outlook Express E-mail message, your Web browser may not start or connect to the Web page.
Solution (Check below for correct Operating System and Program Version)

This problem seems to be caused by a lot of things and what works for one may not work for another so try all of the following until you find a solution.
• Do you have a pop-up blocker, if so try disabling it. Don't think that is the problem but worth a try.
• Check your java to see if it works.

• Set Internet Explorer As the Default Browser
  • Go to Start menu
  • Point to Settings
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Double Click the Internet or Internet Options icon
  • Click Programs.
  • Ensure that Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default is selected
  • Click Apply
  • Click OK.
  • Open Internet Explorer
  • Click Yes when you receive the following prompt.
    Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Do you wish to make it the default?
  • Links in E-mail messages should then open Internet Explorer.
  
  Windows XP
  
  • Open Internet Explorer.
  • Click on the Tools menu
  • Click Internet Options
  • Click the Programs tab.
    Ensure that the Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default check box is checked
  • Click Apply
  • Click OK.
  • Close Internet Explorer
  • Reopen Internet Explorer
  • Click Yes when you receive the following prompt.
    Internet Explorer is not currently your default browser. Do you wish to make it the default?
  • Links in E-mail messages should then open Internet Explorer.


• Correct your file association.
  • Windows NT
    
    • On the Start menu, point to Programs
    • Click either Windows Explorer or Windows NT Explorer.
    • Click View
    • Click Folder Options
    • Click File Types.
    • In the Registered File Types box
    • Click BURL:File Transfer Protocol
    • Click Edit.
    • In the Actions box, Click Open
    • Click Edit.
    • The Application Used To Perform Action box may display the path to your Web browser as a short file name. Type the path to your Web browser using the full file name.
    • For example, change:

    • In the Actions box, Click Open
    • Click Edit.
    • The Application Used To Perform Action box may display the path to your Web browser as a short file name. Type the path to your Web browser using the full long file name. For example, change:

New Window is Blank or Nothing Happens When You Click a Link:

Problem occurs with:
• To resolve this problem in Internet Explorer:
  • Quit all programs that are running.
  • Click Start
  • Click Run.
  • Type
    regsvr32 urlmon.dll
  • Or copy and paste from here
  • Click Okay
  • When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message
  • Click Okay
  • If this does not resolve the problem, reinstall Internet Explorer.
  • If you are using the version of Internet Explorer that is included with your operating system, reinstall or repair your operating system.
  OR
  
  • Also, from time to time extracting oleaut32.dll from the original install CD to replace the upgraded IE version of that file will allow New Windows to open from links.

    • How to extract oleaut32.dll
    • Go to Start
    • Run
    • Type in
      • Windows 98-ME
        sfc
      • W2K-XP
        sfc /scannow
    • Click Okay
    • When the sfc windows opens put a tic in "extract the file from the installation disk:
    • type in
      oleau32.dll
    • Click Start
  • Substitute C:\windows\options\cabs for the restore from location if you use a Restore disk and not a standard Install CD.

Internet Explorer Is Not Launched When You Click On A Hyperlink In Outlook Express
• Right click Start Button
• Select Explore
• Click View
• Select Folder Options
• Select the File Types tab
• Type U, the first entry in the list of the items beginning with "U" will appear
• Find URL:HyperText Tranfer Protocol
• Highlight it
• Select Edit
• Highlight OPEN under Actions select Edit
• In Application used to perform this action place the following path including the quotations
  "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
• Note: The above is one line with a space between Internet and Explorer
• Apply the above for each URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol
• If the problem still persists go to Start
• Click Run
• Type in
  regsrv32 urlmon.dll
• Click OK
